Notre Dame's switch last month to a more-accurate-version-of-gold helmet was a good one because it got all the shades of gold matched up without
really changing anything (get off my lawn etcetera etcetera).
I was totally on board. The
"Under the Lights" helmets were also fine for a one-off thing since the only real tweak was a small shamrock on the side.
But WTF is this (other than "the thing Notre Dame will wear against Maryland")?!?

The
official explanation is that these “combine Notre Dame's rich football heritage with the program's bright future,” which yuck. I mean ... no. Just no. A Notre Dame that tries to outweird Maryland and/or look like Oregon is a Notre Dame that makes me sad.
